Hi everyone! It’s always a delight to check in with producers that we’ve featured previously to see what they’re up. And we’re having a good time sipping on this lot from Kinini Village in the Rulindo district of Rwanda. To help jog the memory, Kinini Village means a lot of things. It is a collection of cooperatives looking to improve both their lives and coffee. 85% of the co-op members are women. Kinini is also the name of a washing station in Kinini town that collects cherries from the neighboring villages of Tumba and Mageragere. This specific lot comes from Tumba. In the local language, Kinini translates to ‘this big thing right here’, which is fun and an accurate description of the work by Kinini Cooperative.

The cup profile here is everything that we like to see in a washed bourbon. The flavors are complex and the acidity is sparkling. The first thing we notice in the hot stage is the melon and dried stone fruit vibes. The acidity starts malic and takes a turn for the citric as the cup cools, bringing notes of lime to the table. Be on the look out for the interesting rosemary undertones lurking in this cup. It’s not something that you taste in coffee every day. Here, it’s anchored by dried apricot and yellow raisin sweetness that truly makes for good times.
