ECUADOR - Finca Cruz Loma - Sidra
Welcome to spring everyone! Let’s celebrate with the very first release that Ghost has ever had from Ecuador! We’re featuring not one, but two delightful lots from Galo Morales at Fince Cruz Loma in Pinchincha, Ecuador. First let’s talk about this washed sidra. We’re big fans of the sidra variety. It’s well known on the competition circuit and somewhat scarcely available. We’ve featured the variety from Colombian producers before, but the sidra variety is widely believed to have originated in Ecuador. This is the first time we’ve had the sidra variety straight from the source. Which is rad! This is a minimally processed lot. The coffee was pulped and fermented in open tanks for 48 hours, washed with clean water, and dried on raised screens.
The cup here is dynamic. It was a little frustrating to settle on just three notes for the bag labels honestly. It’s fragrant, juicy, and sweet for days. The nose hints at rose and strawberry, and the flavors hit us with big malic and citric fruits. We taste orange and apple, but the strawberry remains steady through the background with some stone fruits as well. The body is plush and velvety, but the sweetness here is what grabs our attention the most. It’s complex and hits like caramel at first, but the longer we sip the more we taste how it’s anchored by coriander and toffee notes. It’s damned delightful actually. Good times all around.
